And you guys, no matter how you sit down, are not fit to be musicians. And you guys, no matter how you sit down, you’re not fit to be musicians. You’re a donkey and a clumsy bear.

Fable by Ivan Andreevich Krylov "Quartet". The text of the fable can be printed or read online. Krylov's fables are most popular among schoolchildren in the summer as additional literature. Fables look at many life situations and teach children to analyze them, which is a very valuable skill.

The Naughty Monkey, the Donkey, the Goat and the clumsy Bear
We decided to play a Quartet.
We got sheet music, bass, viola, two violins
And they sat down on the meadow under the sticky trees -
Captivate the world with your art.
They hit the bows, they fight, but there’s no point.
“Stop, brothers, stop!” Monkey shouts. “Wait!”
How should the music go? That's not how you sit.
You and the bass, Mishenka, sit opposite the viola,
I, the prima, will sit opposite the second;
Then the music will be different:
Our forest and mountains will dance!"
We settled down and began the Quartet;
He still isn't getting along.
“Wait, I found a secret,”
The Donkey shouts, “We’ll probably get along,”
Let's sit next to each other."
They listened to the Donkey: they sat down decorously in a row,
And yet the Quartet is not going well.
Now they're getting even more intense than ever
And disputes about who should sit and how.
The Nightingale happened to fly to their noise.
Here everyone asks him to resolve their doubts:
“Perhaps,” they say, “take patience for an hour,
To put our Quartet in order:
And we have notes, and we have instruments;
Just tell us how to sit down!" -
"To be a musician, you need skill
And your ears are gentler, -
The Nightingale answers them. -
And you, friends, no matter how you sit down,
Everyone is not fit to be a musician."

Moral and analysis of the fable "Quartet".

At first glance, completely abstract images in the form of a Monkey, a goat, a Donkey and a Bear were timed to coincide with very real events. The author thus expressed his dissatisfaction with the public activities of four officials from different departments. But these are things of a long time ago. What’s surprising is that even after so many years, the fable has not lost its relevance. As it turned out, the years have passed, but people’s mentality has not changed much. Even now we often meet representatives of the human race who mind their own business. Moreover, believing with all their hearts that they are able to cope with it without the slightest preparation. Well, like our heroes. For some reason it was a revelation to them that musical instruments were not enough to create a musical group. You also need experience playing them. Of course, one can argue that the initiative present in the hero of the fable will ultimately lead them to success. After all, everyone knows that an idea can only succeed if you begin to implement it. Those who stop at the planning stage, in principle, cannot come to a logical conclusion. Therefore, if you superimpose the situation on modern society, then you can see positive aspects in it. Namely, proactive people who are not afraid of new tasks and experiments. It is precisely such people who achieve success in modern society, which is what I would like to wish for the younger generation.

Analysis of the fable QUARTET (17:05:00 09/28/2015):
An analysis of the fable “Quartet” by Krylov shows that the work makes fun of people who are able to talk a lot about their perfection, but do not show it in practice. Only through the efforts made, the acquisition of experience and knowledge can a person succeed in his intended business. It is impossible to achieve success in life with empty promises.

Moral of the story - Quartet (10:08:00 02/14/2016):

“In any matter, always and everywhere, mental darkness is destructive, ignorance is dangerous. An ignoramus who takes on a task for which he has neither natural abilities, nor knowledge, nor skill ("Quartet")..." (D.I. Tikhomirov, “Selected fables of I. A. Krylov for schools and people,” edited by D. I. Tikhomirov, Moscow, printing house of M. G. Volchaninov, 1895)

Brief summary of the fable by I.A. Krylova - Quartet (21:10:00 09/23/2016):

In the fable "Quartet", a monkey, a donkey, a goat and a bear decide to play musical instruments. As soon as they start playing, they realize that they are not doing well at all. Then they begin to look for the reason, then they are sitting wrong, then they need to sit closer and many other ridiculous reasons. Of course, the whole reason is that neither of them knows how to play musical instruments. They didn’t take the lesson on their own, because to play well you need skill.

Analysis of the fable by I.A. Krylova - Quartet (17:09:00 02/28/2017):
Naturally, the fable has a hidden meaning and it is not at all about animals - musicians who have no hearing.

There is a version that in this way Krylov ridiculed the tsarist government, which also had many talkers.
It is also addressed to ordinary people, who in words can do a lot, but in reality - nothing. Self-confident people believe that any business they take on is tough for them. But that's not true. If there is no talent or skill in anything, then no matter how self-confident a person is, this will not give him the right to master any activity on an equal basis with professionals.

It is believed that he ridiculed the royal power because there are also many talkers among politicians. They say a lot of things and organize debates, but in turn they are not able to answer for their words and prove these words with actions. Krylov makes it clear that for the board it is not enough to simply occupy some kind of highest rank. To do this, you need to at least understand something about the business you are doing.

A striking example can be seen in the fable “The Donkey and the Nightingale.” There, too, the donkey did not understand singing and believed that the rooster sings better than the nightingale.

Such fables are well suited for children, since in childhood they love to brag. After reading the fable, they will understand that before you say something you need to think about whether you can actually do it.

Winged expressions of the fable by I.A. Krylova - Quartet (17:13:00 18/05/2017):

And you, friends, no matter how you sit down, you are not fit to be musicians.

To be a musician, you need skill.

MORAL OF THE FABLE QUARTET (18:27:00 12/09/2017):

The moral of the fable “Quartet” is that in any business, a person’s abilities, knowledge and experience are important. Without skill and an ear for music, the Bear (as well as the Donkey, Goat and Monkey) will not be able to become a good musician, even if he stocks up on notes and instruments. The same can be said about any other profession. The meaning of the fable "Quartet" is succinctly reflected in the Russian folk proverb: "The work of the master is afraid."

Winged expressions of the fable by I.A. Krylova - Quartet (14:16:00 09/11/2017):

The heroes of the fable “Quartet” decide to play music, but nothing comes of it. And they sit this way and that, but there’s no point. In fact, this was the case; the nobles had to change places several times and argue for a long time about who should manage which department. In the end, everyone sat down, seemingly as they should, but they were unable to do anything meaningful.

Finally, Nightingale comes to the aid of desperate animals; in Krylov’s understanding, these are ordinary people who see what the catch is. The main condition for the correct and harmonious playing of a quartet is the presence of talent among the musicians. Transferring everything to the State Council - the problem is the lack of professionalism among officials; none of them properly understood the area assigned to them. The fable “Quartet” became the source of a funny aphorism; it became the last words of the Nightingale that if you don’t sit down, you won’t become a musician without talent and you won’t be able to extract melody from the instrument. Krylov, on behalf of all sensible people and the people as a whole, is trying to convey a simple truth. But the bottom line is this: it’s not enough just to be from the upper class by birth; in order to manage government affairs and politics in general, you need a sharp mind, natural abilities and, of course, special education. The nobles about whom the fable “Quartet” narrates had none of the above.

Analysis/moral of the fable “Quartet” by Krylov

Ivan Andreevich Krylov placed the “Quartet” on the pages of his “New Fables”.

The fable was written in 1811. Its author turned 42 at this time and continues to work at the Imperial Public Library. His fame as a fabulist by that time was already indisputable. The meter is iambic in different feet with an intricate rhyme scheme, with a predominance of adjacent ones. It can be called a political satire, although the moral of this fable is eternal and is not related to the immediate context. It is believed that the reason for the creation of the work was the reform of the State Council, which led to the division into four departments. The members of the Council did not immediately master the new principle of work; only as a result of disputes they built a hierarchy that finally satisfied everyone. Another version, much closer to the activities of I. Krylov himself, is the opening of the society “Conversation of Lovers of the Russian Word,” which usually met in the house of G. Derzhavin. There were also grievances within its ranks over the distribution of seats. There are five heroes, the most colorful of them are, perhaps, the Monkey (the prankster) and the Donkey. Actually, the rest of the quartet members were never given a chance to speak. The nightingale here is an edifying character, an exponent of the author’s position. The title refers to an ensemble of 4 musicians. “Clubfooted Bear”: a folklore epithet and quite an anthroponym (a calendar, human name for an animal). “They started to play”: the impulse was spontaneous. It was decided to play based on inspiration. Well-known musical instruments reveal themselves in the enumerative gradation: bass, viola, violin. The concert was meant to be without entrance tickets, and subsequently a tour was possible. So, they “fight”, but to no avail. It turns out that desire and effort alone are not enough. You also need to sit correctly. Naturally, Monkey was the first to guess about this. The address “brothers” is another touch to humanize the heroes. The refrain is “stop.” She modestly calls herself “prima” (the main one), transplants “Mishenka” and herself. “The forest and mountains will dance!”: the monkey’s optimism develops not just into personification, but into shameless hyperbole. “It’s not going well”: there is no harmonious sound (here there is also an outdated form of the verb). Then it dawned on Donkey. He puts everyone in a row. Again the refrain “no way”. A verbal altercation began. The Nightingale appeared at the noise. The animals ask him to become a judge in the dispute. Nightingale graciously agrees. And here is his verdict: you need your skill and gentler ears. That is, he did not simply deny them skills and experience, but specifically abilities. This means that the ensemble was doomed from the very beginning. It turns out that seating will not make them musicians. In the finale there is also a warning not to mind your own business, to soberly evaluate your talents.

In I. Krylov’s “Quartet,” the writer’s contemporaries saw a satire on the topic of the day.

And you, friends, no matter how you sit down, / Still are not fit to be musicians
From the fable “Quartet” (1811) by I. A. Krylov (1769-1844).
Contemporaries believed; that this fable was written as a satirical response to the reform of the State Council, which by the will of Emperor Alexander I was divided in 1810 into 4 departments. They were led by N. S. Mordvinov (Monkey), P. V. Zavadovsky (Donkey), P. V. Lopukhin (Goat) and A. A. Arakcheev (Bear). Thus, A. S. Pushkin’s Lyceum classmate M. A. Korf wrote in his “Memoirs”: “It is known that we owe the long debate about how to seat them and even several subsequent transplants to Krylov’s witty fable “Quartet.”
About a poorly working team in which things are not going well because there is no unity, agreement, professionalism, competence, or a clear understanding of each person’s own and common task (ironically).

Moral of Krylov's fable "Quartet"

The author conveys the moral from the fable “Quartet” to the young reader at the end of the work in the words of Nightingale, that any skill is the result of long, painstaking work (training), and not a reflection of the self-esteem and boasting of the one who decided to demonstrate this very skill.

Analysis of the fable "Quartet"

At first glance, it may seem that the fable “Quartet” makes fun of self-taught musicians who, while bringing their “art” to the masses, do not want to notice that they are not at all ready for this: either they have no talent, or the proper experience or knowledge.

And indeed, four friends, who had nothing to do with music at all, decided to play a quartet. They took notes and musical instruments, sat down and began to play, but nothing came of it. Deciding that it was all a matter of seating, the animals changed their position in different ways: sometimes they sat in a row, sometimes opposite each other - but, as one would expect, nothing changed from this. The situation was saved by a nightingale - a recognized musician in the forest, a master of his craft - who flew in response to the noise coming from his quarreling comrades. It was he who explained to the braggarts that in order to play well, you need to be able to do it, and not just sit beautifully with the instrument.

But in fact, the moral of the fable is much deeper than simply ridiculing “incompetent” musicians. The author simply used them to show how stupid braggarts and idle talkers look, regardless of their age and status: a child or a statesman, such as Arakcheev, Lopukhin, Mordvinov and Zavadovsky, who head 4 departments of the State Council formed by Alexander I, through the year of which Krylov wrote his fable.

Winged expressions from the fable “Quartet”

“And you, friends, no matter how you sit down, you are not fit to be musicians” - is used in the fable “Quartet” as a reproach to a poorly working team, when it cannot achieve its goal due to the lack of agreement among its members, understanding of general and individual tasks, professionalism and unity.
