The Book of Changes - the interpretation of hexagram №64

Wei Ji. It's not over yet

Situations unfold in such a way that, finally, chaos sets in, but it is seen not as the disintegration of the created, but as infinity, the possibility of endless creativity all over again. Chaos appears here not as something negative, but as an environment in which something completely new can be created. Of course, this new creativity must follow the laws (and from the point of view of the authors of the "Book of Changes", according to the same laws that were indicated above). This is seen as cyclical in the "Book of Changes". At the last minute in this last situation, The Book of Changes, like a parting word, gives an indication of what can happen here and what to look out for. The most important thing is the presence of fullness of strength. It is better if there are more of them than necessary, because if they were not enough at the last minute, then nothing favorable could be thrown. This is why the text says:

It's not over yet.
Accomplishment.
The young fox has almost crossed.
[If] he soaks his tail, [then] there will be nothing auspicious.

1. The first position represents only the beginning of this process, i.e. the beginning of the development of the necessary forces, so it can be assumed that there are still few of them here. First of all, the text of the "Book of Changes" indicates that a person will have to regret greatly if in the past, before he has to go through chaos, he did not develop enough strength. Therefore, only the following is said:

In the beginning, a weak point. Wet your tail.
Regret.

2. At a time when a person goes through chaos, the only thing he can hold on to is himself, because in chaos there is nothing to rely on. He must, in the second position, which just characterizes the inner life of a person and his isolation, completely hold on to himself, preserve himself. Therefore, the text says:

A strong feature in second [place].
Brake the wheels.
Fortitude is for happiness.

3. But then there comes a way out. He cannot but come, and the third position characterizes him. But here, when "the end is not yet", strictly speaking, nothing has been achieved yet and there is still not enough strength. A hike that would have been undertaken from this position could only have been unsuccessful. And nevertheless, the need for this outward movement, the need to undertake a new cycle of creativity, comes out here so strongly that the position itself favors this. The inconsistency of this position is expressed in the inconsistency of the aphorism attributed to it:

Weak point in third [place].
It's not over yet.
The hike is unfortunately.
Favorable ford across the great river.

4. A prerequisite for the work that can be undertaken in a given position is that resilience that testifies to the fullness of strength. Only she can lead to a successful outcome. But this resilience has before it not a calm environment, but an agitated chaos, and it is against it that a person must act here. May he have great toil, may he be forced to fight for a long time, but if he continues his struggle, maintaining his perseverance, then everything in the world, the whole world, encrypted in the image of a great kingdom, will approve of his activity. Against all the powers of darkness, he must come out here. And The Book of Changes advises him:

Strong line in fourth [place].
Fortitude is for happiness.
Remorse will disappear.
[When] shocked, one must attack the land of demons.
[And after] three years there will be praise from the great kingdom.

5. The persistence described in the previous step is central here. characteristic feature person. She gives him nobility. And this nobility, as if from a certain center, can radiate into the whole environment, ennobling it. The essence of this inner nobility is in the harmony that is emphasized by the middle position in the upper Li trigram. This is inner truthfulness. That it should radiate and shine is indicated by the fact that this trait is central to the trigram of radiance. So, here in
within the confines of darkness and chaos, the inner truth shines, illuminating everything around, and this indicates the possibility of further manifestation of light, i.e. creativity. In other words, the starting point is given here for a new cycle, which begins again in the first hexagram, Creativity. In this sense, the text can be understood:

Weakness in fifth [place].
Fortitude is for happiness.
There will be no remorse.
[If with] the brilliance of a noble man is truth,
[that will be] happiness.

6. After what has already been achieved in the previous position, only the pacification of old age remains. If a person did not have time to start creativity in time, then, as an opportunity, he only has to find his satisfaction in a calm feast. In order to reach such a feast, one must possess many powers, one must possess inner truthfulness. A person cannot be blamed for inactivity here, and no one will blame him for it. He deserved his peace. But if he took any action when the time for this action had already passed, then he would be overwhelmed by the forces of chaos. Everything would be lost to them. Therefore, the text says:

Above is a strong line.
Have the truth when you drink wine.
There will be no abuse.
[If] you moisten your head, [even] having the truth, you will lose this [truth].

The luck that will mark all your deeds is on the doorstep. But it is still too early to act. If you move forward with enough deliberation, circumstances will improve from day to day. The wish will come true in the near future. A happy period of your life is approaching, which will not be long to wait.

The perseverance, characterized in the previous stage, is here the central feature of a person. She gives him nobility.
