The main goal of the competition is to popularize the profession of a Russian scientist. Who can become a participant and how to apply for participation in the competition?

Scientists can take part individually or in groups of no more than 10 people. The main condition is the presence of Russian citizenship or a residence permit in the territory Russian Federation. Since the competition is aimed at providing assistance and support to young scientists, the age of participants at the time of completion of the project should not exceed 35 years. In a research team, registration and application submission are handled by the supervisor. He must have a higher education. If a scientist alone presents a project, he also acts as a leader.

To take part in the competition, you must complete a number of actions:

  1. The leader must register with the RFBR KIAS, and also invite all members of the research team to register. After this, enter all the necessary information according to the proposed form, including the content of the project. If one of the team members refuses to enter information about themselves, they are automatically removed from the system.
  2. After entering the data, the manager signs the application form and attaches a file with the international application, drawings, maps and graphic information. Upon completion of these steps, the application is automatically registered, after which a registration number is assigned.
  3. After assigning a registration number, the application must be printed (all pages) except for the attached file. All sheets must be numbered and filed.
  4. The manager is required to send a printed application by Russian Post or put it in the RFBR mailbox (you can find addresses on the official website). This must be done within 15 days.

After this, all that remains is to wait for the results of the report and the results of the competition. When choosing a winner to receive a grant, the expert commission takes into account many nuances. Not only the relevance of the project topic is taken into account, but also the education, scientific degree of the participants, the correctness of filling out the application form, and other factors.

What can the grant be used for?

The Foundation for Basic Research will compensate the winners of the “My First Grant” competition in 2018 for various costs associated with the implementation scientific project. These include:

  1. Purchase of medicines and necessary materials, including consumables: paper, paints, chemicals, and so on.
  2. Payment for travel by transport if research is carried out in another locality or region.
  3. Registration of visas if necessary to travel abroad.
  4. Personal needs, including food and accommodation during trips and expeditions.
  5. Payment of rent for premises required for research.
  6. Purchase of equipment, tools and technical base.
  7. Publication of results scientific work and so on.

Also, grant funds can be spent on paying taxes and other mandatory payments provided for by law.

Every year RFII organizes the “My First Grant” competition. And 2017 was no exception. How to submit an application?

Young scholars need to submit an application before the deadline – 06/30/2016. To submit applications correctly, we recommend that you carefully read the main criteria.

Applications are accepted in the following scientific fields:

  1. teachings about the Earth;
  2. biology and medicine;
  3. exact sciences – mathematics, computer science and mechanics;
  4. fundamental principles of engineering sciences;
  5. materials science and chemistry;
  6. natural science research methods in the humanities;
  7. astronomy and physics;
  8. infocommunication technologies and computing systems.

To complete the main tasks of the project work, the competitors are allocated a time period of two years.

In order to become a participant in the competition of scientific geniuses, you must visit the KIAS information resource of the Rosfund for Basic Research.

A person who is appointed as a manager in project work, enters personal data in the system and invites all participants of the competition to register. After these actions, he sends invitations for joint participation to all members of the research team, who are obliged to accept them within the near future. Otherwise, all information about the participant will be deleted, and he will not be able to participate in the competition.

After filling out the necessary fields with information about the project and the creative team, the application is signed and sent to the Foundation for registration. The application must also be accompanied by a copy of articles in well-known publications on the topic of the work and the main theses of the created project.

Additionally, a printed copy of the application is sent to the RFII postal address. All sheets are numbered and stitched, and on the envelope, in addition to the address, the words “RFBR Competition”, the number of the application for participation and the competition code are indicated.

The leader is selected by team members based on his professional experience and availability higher education. If the project is the fruit of creative scientific activity one person, then he automatically becomes the leader of his work.

Who can be a participant in the project?

Researchers who meet the following conditions can participate in the scientific competition “My First Grant” in 2017:

  • an individual or a group of scientists up to 5 people;
  • you need to live permanently in Russia or have a residence permit in our country;

Competition results

The Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR, Foundation) announces the 2018 Project Competition for fundamental scientific research carried out by young scientists (My First Grant).

The goal of the Competition is to attract young scientists to active participation in fundamental scientific research, creating conditions for young scientists to conduct independent research on the most important problems of natural, humanitarian and social sciences and developing their skills in leading scientific teams.

Fundamental scientific research projects carried out by individuals in the following areas can be submitted to the Competition:

  • mathematics, mechanics;
  • physics and astronomy;
  • chemistry and materials sciences;
  • biology;
  • Earth Sciences;
  • infocommunication technologies and computing systems;
  • fundamental principles of engineering sciences;
  • history, archaeology, ethnology and anthropology;
  • economy;
  • philosophy, political science, sociology, jurisprudence, social history science and technology, science studies;
  • philology and art history;
  • psychology, fundamental problems of education, social problems human health and ecology;
  • global problems and international relations;
  • fundamentals medical sciences;
  • fundamental principles of agricultural sciences.

The implementation period of the Project submitted to the Competition is 2 years.

The application for participation of the Project in the Competition is completed electronically in information system Foundation (KIAS RFBR).

Applications for participation of projects in the Competition at KIAS RFBR have been submitted since July 11, 2017 until 23 hours 59 minutes (Moscow time) October 5, 2017.

After registering the Application in the RFBR CIAS (assigning a registration number) to the Fund in printed form a Declaration (Appendix) must be submitted, drawn up in accordance with the requirements given in clause 2.2 of the announcement on the RFBR website (http://www.rfbr.ru/rffi/ru/rffi/ru/contest/n_812/o_2043343).

The declaration must be submitted to the Fund no later than 17:00 Moscow time on October 19, 2017.

Summing up the results of the Competition - first quarter of 2018

Based on the results of the Competition, the Foundation allocates a grant in the amount of 500,000 rubles for the implementation of the Project during the first year.

The decision to provide a grant in the amount of 500,000 rubles for the implementation of the Project during the second year will be made by the Foundation based on the results of the examination of the report on the Project, presented in accordance with section 4 of the announcement on the RFBR website.

The conditions for using grants are determined by the “List of Accepted Russian Foundation basic research expenses of the grant allocated to the winners of the competition for fundamental scientific research projects”, posted on the Foundation’s website.

A project can be submitted to the Competition by an individual or a group of individuals of no more than 5 people.

The age of persons submitting a Project to the Competition must not exceed 35 years of age as of December 31, 2017.

Persons submitting a Project to the Competition may be citizens of Russia, as well as citizens of other countries who have a residence permit in Russia and are registered with the tax authorities and the Pension Fund of Russia.

The team of individuals is formed by one of the team members - the Project Manager.
