December 3, 2013 in the reading room (2nd floor) opened an exhibition "Heroes of the Russian Land" , timed to Day of Heroes of the Fatherland celebrated in Russia on December 9th.

The proposed exposition consists of three sections.

The section "History of the holiday" presents documents containing the history of the emergence and celebration of the Hero of the Fatherland Day. In 2007, a new memorable date- December 9 - "Heroes of the Fatherland Day" or simply "Hero's Day".

The date of December 9 was chosen due to the fact that on this day in 1769 the Russian Empress Catherine II the Great established the Imperial Military Order of the Holy Great Martyr and Victorious George - the highest military award of the empire.

Each order is a testament to the merits and exploits of the recipient, each is honorable in its own way. But of all the awards Russian Empire the most honorable, most respected is the Military Order of the Holy Great Martyr and Victorious George, awarded for military exploits. His statute stated that “neither a high family, nor previous merits, nor wounds received in battles” are grounds for awarding him. He was awarded the award "only one who not only fulfilled his duty in everything by oath, honor and duty, but beyond that marked himself for the benefit and glory of Russian weapons with a special distinction."

The requirement of "special distinction" and the jealous observance of this principle distinguished the George Cross from a number of other orders. This order was awarded to warriors who showed valor, courage and courage in battle.

The names of the Knights of St. George are engraved on the walls of the St. George Hall Kremlin Palace. The Bolsheviks canceled this holiday and abolished the order as a state award.

The status of the order was restored only in 2000; it again became the highest military award in Russia. First Knight of St. George Russian Federation in 2008 became Colonel-General Sergey Makarov.

Also in this section is a book by a well-known specialist in the field of phaleristics V.A. Durov "Order of Russia". The book is about the "old" Russian awards, their significance in strengthening the high spirituality of society, in particular, a separate chapter of the book tells about the official establishment of the Order of St. George, its degrees and the first gentlemen.

The story about orders and medals is accompanied by interesting information about the persons marked by them, episodes of military campaigns, and rich illustrative material.

The content of the section "The Edges of Heroism" consists of materials about the Heroes of our country. Thus, the Patriotic War of 1812 showed the world an unprecedented feat of the Russian army, which defended the Motherland in a time of difficult trials. The heroism of soldiers, officers and generals was appreciated: many of them became holders of high awards, in particular the Order of St. George.

The proposed documents contain information about how many Heroes of the Soviet Union in our country, who were awarded this title both before the Great Patriotic War, and during it and after it, are introduced to the fate of the children-heroes of the Great Patriotic War, pioneer heroes, women heroes of the Second World War war, the first of which was Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. The material about the monuments to Heroes and generals is also interesting.

The section "Heroes-Amurians" presents the three-volume book "Amurts-Heroes", the author-compiler and editor-in-chief of which is V.F. Sayapin and the monograph by V.P. Omelchak "Women of the Amur Region in the Great Patriotic War of 1942-1945".

The Amurians - Heroes series has been published in the Amur Region since 2005. The first two volumes tell about Amur warriors who were awarded the highest state award for their military and labor feats - the Golden Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labor, Hero of the Russian Federation, as well as about holders of the Orders of Glory and Labor Glory of three degrees, whose status is equated to the Hero. The third volume, published in 2012, tells about the Amur participants in local wars and armed conflicts, who provided assistance to countries and peoples who fought to maintain their national security and independence.

The series "Amur Heroes" is the result of a large research work of local lore. In the book "Women of the Amur Region in the Great Patriotic War of 1942-1945", published in 2011, the author reveals the feats of arms and labor of Amur women. Also used materials on the contribution to the achievement Great Victory residents of Primorye, Transbaikalia and Siberia.

When writing the monograph, materials from central and local archives, magazine and newspaper articles, records of the memoirs of veterans of the Second World War were used. The book contains biographies of pilots, anti-aircraft gunners, doctors, nurses, cooks, soldiers of other professions, home front workers; documentary information: photographs and memoirs of both the most famous participants in the hostilities (N. Raspopova, N. Relina), and little-known soldiers, officers, lumberjacks, tractor drivers who contributed to the common victory.

The monograph is completed by a number of appendices, one of which contains a list of women awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for military exploits in the Great Patriotic War, among which our Amur woman, pilot, senior lieutenant of the guard, air unit commander Raspopova Nina Maksimovna occupies a worthy place.

December 9 is a holiday that honors outstanding compatriots of the past and contemporaries, whose actions and deeds are associated with the words "feat" and "heroism" for the glory of the Fatherland.

We invite everyone to visit our exposition.

Time passes, but we keep the memory of the Great Patriotic War. It does not matter at all how to call it - patriotic education, history lessons or information hour, but children and youth need to be told about the exploits and glory of their ancestors, about the terrible threat hanging over our country, and about the Great Victory, which we celebrate 72 times already.

May again...
Gun barrels rumble
And there are many festive lights in the sky ...
Do not forget on Victory Day, people
About what was
what is behind it. ”(S. Telkanov)

During the years of the Great Patriotic War, warriors from the Far East covered themselves with unfading glory - arrows and marines, pilots and tankers. Nikolaevsk-on-Amur, a port city, a fisherman city, over 4 years of bloody battles sent more than 13,700 of its inhabitants to the front. Compatriots - Heroes of the Soviet Union were discussed at the lesson of courage "About those who fought and won ...", which took place on the eve of Victory Day. The listeners, students of the Industrial and Humanitarian College, heard a story about life, combat way and the exploits of the Lower Amur people - Heroes of the Soviet Union. Andrey Stepanovich Aleksandrov, Grigory Aleksandrovich Koptilov, Anatoly Alekseevich Leshchev, Vladimir Petrovich Maiborsky, Mikhail Grigorievich Malik, Mikhail Maksimovich Muzykin, Tit Parfenovich Novikov, Ivan Petrovich Orlov, Georgy Evdokimovich Popov, Georgy Arsentievich Skushnikov, Vasily Nikonovich Slastin, Nikolai Ivanovich Stashkov ... Their names carved on the memorial sign "Front letter" in the city park over the Amur. Two of them were born and raised in Nikolaevsk-on-Amur. These are Grigory Alexandrovich Koptilov (this year marks the 100th anniversary of his birth) and Mikhail Grigoryevich Malik. In memory of them, memorial plaques were installed on the facades of schools No. 2 and No. 4.

Two heroes whose names are on the obelisk, Georgy Evdokimovich Popov and Vladimir Petrovich Maiborsky, repeated the feat of Alexander Matrosov. Popov's name is given to school number 5 and a street in our city.

In addition, it was told about the heroes whose names are not on the memorial sign, but they lived and worked on the Lower Amur, so we rightfully consider them our countrymen. This is a participant in the war with imperialist Japan, captain Leonid Vladimirovich Smirnykh, in whose honor a street in the city of Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinsky and two villages on Sakhalin - Smirnykh and Leonidovo are named, and naval sailor Nikolai Nikolaevich Golubkov, who also repeated the feat of Alexander Matrosov, blowing up a Japanese bunker at the cost of own life.

In the square above the Amur there is another monument on which the names of those killed on July 18, 1942 are carved. forty-three sailors from the Shch-118 and Shch-138 submarines, which guarded our city and were blown up as a result of a sabotage act. The eldest of them was 33 years old, and most of them were only 20.

At the end of the meeting with students, it was emphasized that we, the descendants of soldiers, defenders of the Motherland, are obliged to preserve the sacred memory of the feats of arms of veterans and those who did not come from the "bloody fields ..."

At night, the Germans attacked the area occupied by scouts three times, but each time they rolled back, leaving 60 people on the battlefield.
