The girls in the class also form hierarchies, which at first practically do not intersect with the hierarchies of the boys. Crossing occurs only at 13-15 years of age - the period of puberty. Under the age of thirteen, they are not interested in alpha guys or guys in general. Alpha.
Basically, they are either girls who have a reputation as the first beauty and, on top of everything else, a bitchy character, or excellent students with high self-esteem. In the first case, the alpha is, as it were, a trendsetter in the class. The main feature of alphas is that they know how to butter up teachers. The teacher may not listen to the alpha guy, but he will definitely listen to the opinion of the alpha girl. An Alpha has an exclusive, undeniable, non-negotiable right to an Alpha guy. Compared to the alpha guy, her position is not nearly as strong in the pack, because the female team is never and nowhere a cohesive structure in which everyone is “for each other.” The absence of an omega girl can make the alpha's leadership position generally purely symbolic, especially when there is more than one group of girls. If there is more than one alpha in the class, then there will be permanent bickering between them.

Betas- these are two or three girlfriends of a bitchy alpha girl. They serve the alpha to spread gossip and provide small services, for example, accompanying him to the toilet (an alpha will never go to this filthy place alone), providing a “hut” (mirror, cigarettes, excuses to ancestors/teachers) if necessary. But they are not real friends, as in the relationship between alpha and beta guys. And they are not much different from gamma girls. The reason is in women's nature, according to which they can completely trust only guys, and they always have rivalry with other girls. Finding themselves without their leader (for example, ill), betas become completely disoriented and can serve as an excellent target for sudden retaliatory attacks from omegas. This is how beta girls differ from beta guys who have the title “i.” O. "alphas" always cope with dignity. Note that alphas prefer to take more plain-looking people as their girlfriends. Omega in a pack of girls, they are chosen according to the same patterns, but more attention is paid to appearance - often these are the most terrible freaks of the class, so stupid or poor that they are not able to take care of their appearance. In some teams there are two or even three such female omegas. Also, females are more jealous of “popularity”. There are times when a girl begins to be bullied only because she is trying too hard to please everyone, and not least the guys.

The most common type of bullying of an unwanted girl is complete and total ignoring of her, but this is practiced in more decent women's communities. In older people, bullying is not fundamentally different from the male version.

An ideal example of possible bullying in relation to omega is shown by the Soviet film “Scarecrow”.

Omega girls have a much greater chance of increasing their ranking potential. The best example is Natasha Guseva, who before filming the film was a classic omega, a nerd and a “slut” (in her own words), both in class and on the set. Tumbler: A variation of the "bunny" in which the victim itself is used as the object. Women's locker room. Sometimes the pack does the following to an omega: they throw him into the women's locker room and hold the door. But more often a simpler trick is used: the omega’s clothes are thrown into the locker room. Here, either the clothes will fly out of the locker room back into the corridor (dirty, which is not bad) or they will remain there waiting for the omega to come for them in a negligee. Striptease— the goal of the game: to pull off the victim’s pants or skirt at the most unexpected moment for her (say, in physical training while doing pull-ups on the horizontal bar or while walking along the corridor). Additional points are awarded when the victim performs this action with his own hands (for example, a long thread clings to the back of the skirt and is thrown over the girl’s shoulder; the victim, trying to remove the thread, pulls on it, thereby lifting up her own skirt). For girls, there is a more cruel version of this procedure: the omega is surrounded by classmates, and her clothes are torn off, holding her by all the limbs. It is especially effective to undress an omega in front of guys.

Slander— undesirable rumors are spread about the victim, discrediting her. As a rule, the topic of slander is associated with various sexual perversions or violations of the law.

Out of sight- the victim is locked in a classroom or closet, or piled under a large pile of desks or chairs. Then the victim can be observed from a distance. Passive bullying- the easiest option for baiting an omega from the herd. In this case, they simply try to bypass the omega, refuse to sit at the same desk with him or take him on the team during the game (often citing the fact that he always messes up or has some oddities). Also, during passive bullying, all kinds of name-calling and jabs are used towards the victim. More often this method used in elite lyceums and gymnasiums, where the rules are too strict to carry out active bullying. Again, ineffective against people who don't care.

Omega's adult life

After school, these are classic hickeys, nerds and beatards who find it very difficult to relearn how to communicate with people. Of course, they are used to the fact that no one loves them, and they will be punished for the slightest mistake. If in a few years the omega can overcome these complexes within himself, then things will become easier. And since the conscious formation of personality begins (and in some cases ends) in adolescence, the most powerful manifestations of psychological struggle are observed there, and even a little later - already by the age of 20-23. What happens to a person over such a period of 10-12 years will largely determine his future position in society.

So, one of the many models of informal relationships existing in society is, oddly enough, an ordinary school class and an ordinary institute group. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the ever-increasing need for self-realization, and the search for ways to implement it. Secondly, the educational community is a very close environment that has existed for many years, and from which it is very difficult to leave. That is, for ten whole years schooling the class as a social group is increasingly withdrawing into itself, only strengthening the informal hierarchy. Of course, in the institute environment everything is formed anew, but with the same final result in five years. And thirdly, we should not forget about the increasing seething of hormones (in every sense), which significantly strengthens self-esteem and recklessness. The duration of the processes depends on the prevailing social status, as well as the general intellectual and cultural level in the group. Subsequently, this passes, passions subside, but the results remain.

On the other side of the Sun: components of the hierarchy.

Thus, one can imagine the general picture of the emergence of such a group. It all starts with simply dividing it into two parts: those who work for status and those who work for evaluation. Some people manage to do both. At first, of course, everyone is still looking closely at each other, but then a final structure is formed, invulnerable (with rare exceptions) right up until the issuance of a certificate or diploma.

Such a hierarchy, in its classical sense, can be represented as solar system. In the center is the core of actual power, around the nearest hot orbit Alpha stars rotate, and beta stars cover them a little further away. Then, closer and closer to the cold, gammas, deltas, epsilons and omegas spin.

In this case, gender division is important. It is interesting that if more than half of the group is female, then matriarchy is established, which in its harsh dictatorship is not inferior to male power. The classic hierarchy includes six main elements, usually located vertically.

In this situation, the main thing for Alpha is, first of all, to sit in his high place. To do this, he needs to monitor the actions of potential competitors and stop any encroachments on power. Also, not a single more or less serious decision should be made without his participation.

The requirements for Alpha's place are best met by children from wealthy families - in other words, “the right children of the right parents.” As a rule, attention is paid to them (often spontaneously) from the first days. And almost immediately a flock of males and females of lower rank line up around them, wanting to get used to the more advanced and, as it seems, more intelligent individuals. Although intellectual abilities are hardly in the first place for Alpha. After all, a person who is not stuffed with knowledge, even the most charismatic, is unlikely to be able to lead the hierarchy. Therefore, it often turns out that Alpha’s entire environment is much stupider than himself, which only greatly strengthens the halo on his head. Perfect option– if Alpha becomes the leader of the group. And, naturally, an excellent student (excellent student).

Alpha's position in the group is strong and does not change much until the end of the team's existence. The only threat can come from an outside competitor, because (most importantly!) a new Alpha cannot arise from within such a system in principle.

Groups with a predominance of Alpha males and Alpha females are significantly different. If in the first case there can be only one leader, then in the second, dual power is also possible, and unpredictable from the very beginning. For example, when an institute group is formed, there are two Alphas in it, who came from different places, but are somewhat similar to each other. But competition does not happen: they become best friends, and over the course of five years of study they can calmly rule in tandem, without even trying to share power. A conflict between them is possible only theoretically, but only behind the scenes, or even after graduation.

Beta (Beta Main).

There is only one such person in a group, less often – two. Considered the best friend of the Alpha (or two Alphas, in the case of their dual power), but in fact acts as something of a personal assistant. Betas are engaged in accompanying Alpha everywhere and everywhere: they enter the classroom together, share cigarettes and drinks with them, go to the buffet or the toilet, are late for classes... And always together.

The main task is to directly contact the general mass and control it, which Alphas usually disdain. Alpha and Beta must be of the same gender. In the case of patriarchy, the Beta male differs from the Alpha in having less ambition, a less loose tongue, but greater sociability, which the Alpha, due to his straightforwardness, does not have. And if in the male hierarchy this is quite tolerable, then the appearance of such a person in a matriarchal group threatens a serious conflict at the top. No Beta “hidden Alpha” will put up with a secondary role for a long time due to its no less high status than the Alphas and the necessary connections from the outside.

So for Beta, a hidden desire to remove Alpha from the throne is much more natural than open devotion.

Gamma.

The most numerous part is approximately half a group. In the hierarchy they hang out at the bottom relative to Alpha and Beta. The main task is to follow the “masters” with their numerical majority, fulfilling their whims and currying favor with them in every possible way. Intellectual abilities are necessarily no higher than those at the top. The total brain mass may be greater, but Gammas are considered one of the most psychologically suppressed layers in the group. That is, they have no desire for leadership, they are generally satisfied with their position, and they were taught not to express their own opinions even in their school years.

The layer of scales, which at first glance seems uniform and unshakable, is very blurry and heterogeneous. Passions are running high here for the right to stand closer to Alphas and Betas. As a result, there arise Privileged Scales And Peripheral . This composition may change periodically, for example, depending on whose girlfriend was the ex-Gamma chosen for the role of Beta, or which of the Alpha Gammas may be appointed headman (wanting to rule, but not wanting to take on much responsibility). Gammas are very easily excitable and unstable, but they do not dare to attack people of higher rank, preferring, first of all, Epsilons or Omegas as targets.

Delta.

Not very numerous. They are located outside the general vertical, and exist, as it were, parallel to the others. Unlike gammas, they are homogeneous in composition, with a predominance of males. In the case of matriarchy, these are the same 95% of males who have gone into extreme orbits. They are located approximately on the same level with scales, but, unlike the latter, they are not psychosuppressed, but rather indifferent to the struggle for influence in the group.

The main quality of Delta is diligence and increased efficiency. At the same time, it somehow illogically combines with general disorganization and laziness. There are even more abilities than Gammas, but Deltas use this reluctantly, preferring to stew in their own juice. That is, they are capable of achieving good and even excellent results, but do not consider this necessary for themselves. And so - in one reading they can understand even the most complex notes and the most unreadable spur.

Because of (or thanks to?) such inconsistency, Deltas try to establish relationships with all members of the team, trying to please everyone at the same time, and first of all the Gammas. For example, it is possible to successfully combine an intellectual nature with a party personality. They are motivated easily and in the same way as Gammas - by the opportunity to eat “scraps from the master’s table.” Deltas can most often be found at various group get-togethers - there they hope to get closer to Alphas and Betas. Sometimes this is successful, and if successful, the Alpha female will make the Delta male her boyfriend. Such an individual is called "Pseudo-Alpha" and among others, Delta is considered the most authoritative, although his position is completely dependent on Alpha Primary.

Deltas in their mass most significantly stratify the group, since they can act on the principle of “both yours and ours.” They can freely communicate with Gammas, Epsilons, and even Omegas.

There is another type of Delta - the so-called Enigma . A very rare type of people, distinguished by excessive inadequacy and pretentiousness of behavior, in any sense of the word. He loves to be the center of attention, but not because of his status, but because of his stupidity. For Alphas and Bet, he usually serves as a court jester, receiving thunderous applause for his clowning. And sometimes it can be oppressed even worse than Omega - it all depends on the will of the rulers.

Epsilon.

Stereotypical don't care, the quietest and most inconspicuous part of the group. They kind of go with the flow, they are present not for the sake of their status, but because “it’s the right way.” In the hierarchy they occupy a place on the level with Gammas, while, like Deltas, they are on the sidelines. Independent of the general vertical, but indecisive and inactive. Mental abilities and final results are sometimes higher than those of Alpha and Beta, but this does not change the overall picture at all.

They avoided falling to the very bottom thanks to their reserve of psychological stability and their indifference to the life of the group in general and in particular. This has dual consequences - on the one hand, Alphas and Betas do not touch them, but on the other hand, they definitely cannot count on a high position, and most importantly, they must get by only on their own.

Attacks on Epsilons, if carried out, are carried out only by Privileged Gammas and for all sorts of minor reasons (for example, a better result on a test, etc.), and nothing more. With Peripheral Gammas, as well as with Deltas and Omegas mutual language found quite quickly. Moreover, what is curious is that as soon as the composition of the Gammas is shuffled, yesterday’s “enemies” for the Epsilons can already become friends with them.

There is a rare variety of Epsilons - “ shifters "(most often girls). Initially, they belong to Epsilons, but for the first time (a year or two, for example) they cannot clearly determine their position, constantly moving along the lower layer of the hierarchy. As a result, they are faced with a choice: to stay away from the vertical and live as before, or to join the Gammas (where the “food” is tastier and more satisfying) in order to try to become Privileged among them, due to higher intelligence and good organization. Subsequently, she may have the opportunity to get into Beta’s place (the risk of gaining the status of a “fool” is compensated by the growing halo on her head).

However, Epsilon the Changeling has more than dual character, therefore, in his presence, Alphas risk getting problems on their own heads from such a “friend”: firstly, she is smarter, secondly, more beautiful, thirdly, she can push them, due to the hidden thirst for power, and for Gammas she has long been her own. When expelled from the general vertical, the shapeshifter can return back to the Epsilons, if they have not finally sent it.

Omega.

The lowest link in the hierarchy, but often the most central. During school years, not a single class is usually complete without it; during college years, Omega may not be observed at all.

Before reminding us what Omega is and how everyone treats him, please remember the film “Scarecrow” or, at least, one of the heroines of the series “School”. Now, it’s unlikely that the image of Omega can be conveyed better than there.

So, Omega is considered a common “enemy” for the vertical elements (Alpha, Bet, Gamm). A class in which there is a pronounced Omega is quite normal. Omega, with his presence, allows him to keep Gammas united, which is very beneficial for Alphas and Betas, and not at all because there is any special personal enmity towards him. But in the absence of such a character, confusion and war between the Privileged and the Peripheral will certainly begin among the Gammas, which will make the elite feel uncomfortable.

Omega, among others, falls under attack not at all because he has harmed or offended someone in any way. It’s just that in such an environment, teenagers clearly have a supernatural sense of smell and are able to smell the most vulnerable in the crowd. Why and how further bullying and open psychological pressure occurs is another question. Well, I wanted it, and that’s it.

But the reasons for Omega’s psychological weakness can be named quite definitely, and this is, first of all, upbringing, which develops extremely low self-esteem and, as a consequence, susceptibility to psychosuppression. So they took it and instilled in him (her) in childhood that you shouldn’t fight back, you need to be polite, courteous, and so on. And it’s even worse if there is a generally bad atmosphere in the family, or the family is incomplete. In short, the direct social opposite of Alpha, “unnecessary children of unnecessary parents.” As a result, we have a completely amorphous creature, incapable of even the slightest resistance.

Another reason (or rather, a consequence of upbringing) is that Omega tries to be (indicatively) too correct, dress correctly, study diligently, believing that this will allow him to become successful. As a rule, it does not allow... For Gammas, such people fall into the category of “black sheep”. If he were a little more stable, he could be classified as an Epsilon, but here characteristic stress and frequent depression affect him, which is why the “victim” in Once again cannot withstand pressure. And even if he is a hundred times smarter than the Epsilons, this will not help, because it is easier and more profitable for the Gammas to eat from the “alpha-beta” trough, but not to get involved with outsiders.

As noted above, Omega is always present in the school environment. If there is none, the weakest of the Gammas (necessarily the guilty one from the Peripheral) or Deltas are “chosen” to play the role of the victim, and everything goes according to the worked out, but it is not clear by whom and when written script.

At school Omega is present only in singular. When moving to college, he may transform somewhat, at most to the level of Epsilon or Delta (but remain essentially Omega). For the institute environment, the Omega phenomenon is generally uncharacteristic.

Thus, we have considered the classical hierarchy model. But its existence in such an “ideal” form, oddly enough, is impossible. After all, built in this way, sooner or later it will fall into a state of stagnation, and here other very interesting subjects appear...

Three powers at the Alpha level: the essence of the conflict.

To do this, let’s go back in time, to the very beginning of the formation of the team. After all, there may be more than one or two potential Alphas in it. At first, a “ferment of the masses” may occur for a couple of months, and the group will be more or less monotonous. But gradually it may become clear that next to the main vertical, in addition to the traditional Deltas and Epsilons, there is something else, and clearly at an unacceptably high place. His name is

Alpha Competitive.

Competitor in literally for Alpha Primary (the main thing is to be of the same gender). Appears almost immediately, in one of the ways. The first path is the exiled Beta (the same “hidden Alpha”), who does not want to put up with the role of a fool. In fact, she falls out of the general structure, in which there is no longer a place for her, but she yearns to give back. The second path is Alpha, who initially did not want to “bend in.” Sometimes both Alpha Competitors can act simultaneously. At first, the goal is the same - to knock the alignment out of the general vertical as much as possible, and preferably for good. However, this requires recruiting your own “subjects”.

In the first case, this can be done by winning over some of the dissatisfied Gammas (Peripheral), Deltas, or by becoming favorable to the Epsilons. Here, literally seconds can count: today Gamma has become undesirable for “them,” and for Alpha Competing, she is the best ally, and even potential Beta. In general, a war is unfolding for the possession of the “living mass”. And the Gammas don’t even suspect who they are being taken for...

In the second case, a completely separate vertical is built. Such a Competing Alpha only needs three or four allies, and no more. They are chosen, as a rule, from Epsilons, less often from Gammas (since they are in great demand anyway). But the most reliable people from her point of view are selected, one of them is appointed Beta Competing .

This phenomenon, and especially both cases at once, makes it possible to significantly reshape the overall structure of the group. But the appearance of another element brings much greater confusion...

Alpha Alternative.

As a rule, it arises at the stage of group formation and manifests itself almost immediately. Represents a subject with pronounced leadership qualities, but not claiming power. To do this, Alpha Alternative deliberately stays away from the general vertical, without fencing itself off as a whole. Present in singular.

A rare combination of characters: he has the psychological stability and high self-esteem inherent in Alpha, but at the same time he is quite smart, creative and completely indifferent to the “rulers,” just like Epsilons. In addition, in the case of an obvious matriarchy, he, unlike the Competing Alpha, is necessarily a person of the opposite sex in relation to the Basic Alpha, which can somewhat soften the conflict. Otherwise (if the Alpha Alternative is female, which happens even more rarely), passions may heat up, but none of them will cross a certain line anyway.

Another difference from other Alphas is that they do not recruit “subjects” for themselves, preferring to swim alone. Like the lower Epsilons, he relies only on his own strength. But at the same time, he is also confident in the effective use of his potential, since he knows where it can be directed - not in ranked battle, for example, but in an imperceptible but effective bypass of Alpha Main in the current situation. True, he is not subject to the excellent student complex, so he motivates himself rather by the process of achieving results and the transition to new level. And this result can be even higher than that of Alphas and Beths.

So on top level in the group we can now count four subjects, completely different in essence. The situation has finally calmed down and we can watch the top.

Between the Main Alphas and the Competing Alphas, especially if they are girls, the conflict initially occurs in an open form. Any methods can be used, ranging from demonstrative ignoring to direct insults. Alpha Basics have seemingly powerful support in the form of Beta Basics and Gammas. However, if Alpha Primary is absent for some reason at the current moment, the positions of the vertical are sharply weakened, since the Beta Primary female (unlike the male!) is not able to adequately cope with the situation, due to her original Gamma essence. This situation disorients her, and she falls back to the other Gammas.

The first Alpha Competitive worked according to the principle “the more, the better.” Now she may have a lot of people under her command who are dissatisfied with Alpha Primary. But there is a threat in the face of the same Gammas. Do not forget that Gammas are fickle, and at any moment they can run away back to the “enemy” if the new “mistress” does not suit them. Thus, there is a risk of losing control over your “living mass”. There are two ways to retreat - either leave the team for good, or go to the Epsilons in disgrace and never come out again.

The second Alpha Competitor decided to act strategically. For example, what prevents her from informing the dean’s office about the slightest misstep of Alpha Principal, if she is the head girl? What follows is a “debriefing”, and this Competing Alpha, as the most conscientious, is appointed headman. The first goal - legal power - has been achieved. Now you can lure the Gammas under you, since they usually jump on their hind legs in front of the headman. The power of Alpha Main in this case, although it remains factual, turns into a formality. In the most extreme case, Alpha Main can be driven to the level of Gamma, or even Omega - Alpha Competing, if she is even tougher in nature, will not spare anyone.

But a threat to the newly appointed head may, surprisingly, be her own Beta (Beta Competitive). Having been pulled out of the Epsilons, and even having connections that are better than those of the Alphas, she will naturally want to move higher for free. Somewhere after a year or two (if nothing changes), she can be seen day after day taking the group’s journal to the dean’s office. And if “her” Alpha Competitor must leave the team soon for some reason, then such a Beta will strive in every possible way to win the highest place in the group, and not least thanks to male attention, because, in her opinion, she is more beautiful and smarter compared to Beta Prime.

However, Alpha Primary, who has not given up, understands what’s what, and is already preparing Privileged Gamma for the role of headman, proposing to make her... the deputy of the current official owner of the magazine. And here, with Beta Competing, her Epsilon nature will play a cruel joke: she will not find the necessary support, and by her nature she is not as bitchy as she would like. The worst thing is when it happens at the beginning school year. Then the moment is almost certainly lost, and yesterday's Beta returns to the group as a simple Epsilon.

If Alpha Primary is a female, then Alpha Alternative in this case is necessarily a male. The conflict is present, but occurs in a sluggish and sometimes ridiculous form. There is only one reason for this - Alpha Alternative does not need to take the place of Alpha Main in the hierarchy, and as a woman he is categorically uninterested in her (well, he swore off communicating with the “majors”). Alpha Primary, in her own opinion, is the only contender for any Alpha male. But, realizing that in the end he won’t achieve anything, he gets very offended, but the maximum that he produces is a phrase like: “You’ll ask me for something!..” That’s where it all ends, until the next hormonal surge in the female .

For Alpha Alternative, if she is a female (but, I repeat, this is a rare phenomenon), the situation arises even more advantageous, but also more tense. Because, as a rule, she is the first beauty in the group, and in terms of intelligence, she does not in any way beg to become a “subject” of the Basic Alphas. Naturally, the Alpha Main will envy her on a certain basis, since the self-sufficiency of the Alternate Alpha female necessarily attracts male attention in the group and beyond. But the conflict on the part of Alpha Main occurs at most in the form of “answer her faster and pass the test faster” and in general it is indicative of trying to be the best (first of all, in front of her subjects). And naturally, not without total ignoring, along with his retinue. However, no one dares to do more. Because Alpha Main is strong with the support of Beth and Gamma, but for the time being, because they are dreaming of seeing the “mistress” crushed. Alpha Alternative is strong on its own and does not need support within the group. Moreover, behind the scenes there are men on her side, and what could be better for a woman?

Over time, it also turns out that Alpha Alternate does not take part in the life of the group at all. For example, he won’t go to a general drinking party, under a very original pretext: “But I don’t need this!” And instead, on the same day, he’ll go to some crazy concert at a local party. In short, he manages his time as he pleases. He can also afford not to come to classes (he still understands that there will be enough opportunities to catch up), and in general, in an ideal case, if possible, spend more and more time at training camps, olympiads or conferences. The psychological pressure on him from the vertical is noticeable at first (probably a test to see if this is really Alpha or not?), but over time it decreases to a minimum. No one from any side is even going to break the barrier that was built during joint training. Because, by and large, none of them need it. That is, most of time passes in relatively peaceful coexistence, but at a certain distance. " Cold War", if you like.

His relationships with other elements of the group develop differently. Everything is clear about the Primary Alphas and Betas, but he easily finds a common language with the Competing Alphas and Betas. And to be even more precise, they are with him, at least out of a sense of contradiction. However, the closer the session (that is, the struggle for the result), the distance between all Alphas naturally increases.

Gammas reasonably consider the Alternate Alpha to be too “proud” and “arrogant”, because he does not drink with them and does not feed them handouts. But none of them (both males and females) often try not to get close to him (even without a conflict - very carefully), because they risk getting a scolding from the “owners”. Males - because they do not obey the main Alpha male, and females - because Alpha Main can see potential competitors in them. In case conflict situation, Gammas remain the losers, because they are accustomed to acting only with Epsilons and Omegas - Alpha Alternative, in principle, does not care about all this, in extreme cases - he will answer once and for all, so that he will be remembered. Without assault, of course, since he himself is a non-conflict nature, but stable.

Epsilons also gravitate toward Alpha Alternative (due to the similarity of some character traits, plus they see in him the toughness they lack), and Deltas can also turn to him for help. As for an individual Epsilon (including the opposite sex), in communicating with the Alternative Alpha he also sees some personal benefit for himself, counting on help from him. This allows him to feel comfortable, as if behind a stone wall, and at the same time achieve results on an equal basis with other Alphas and Betas, without interfering with their grouping. In turn, Alpha Alternative requires Epsilon to be straightforward in the game, since he can’t stand “shifters”; at the slightest hint of a double game, Epsilon will go to hell with a good mate. And in general, Alpha Alternative is firmly convinced that you need to achieve results (oh, horror!) with your own brains, and not with feeding from the outside.

Beyond the finish line: The consequences of being in a hierarchy.

So, the diplomas have been awarded, everyone goes their separate ways... What awaits them in their now adult life, when they have completed 15 years of education in a relatively closed society?

Beta males, of course, will find the best job, precisely because of their responsibility, ability to gain trust and good performance. These are the first applicants for positions of managers of various types. Alpha males (Primary) seem to switch places with their former “helpers”, since they themselves do not have real strength and power. But their key trump card is still charisma. The main areas of activity may be programming, working as a “full-time director” or even politics. However, it is not a fact that in the new team they will not fall to the level of Gamma or Omega, and this is very bad.

Basic alpha females most often marry successfully, or rather, they are simply successfully married off to the same “right children of the right parents.” A Beta female can count on approximately the same result, but much worse, since she has always been inferior to Alpha females in everything. Is it about work? – Unknown.

The marriage of an Alpha female and a Beta male will be considered the most successful, since charisma plus diligence will give effective results in the future. With the Competing Alpha Female the situation is absolutely identical, since the choice is not particularly rich. A self-sufficient Alpha female Alternative will at least look for a man with the makings of an Alpha (and this could be an Alpha, or a Beta, or even an undeveloped Epsilon) - this is her choice. Work for her, as for a versatile person, will depend on various factors.

For the Alternative Alpha male, perhaps his companion will be an equally adequate Alpha female or Epsilon female, who, most importantly, will be his reliable support in life. His work will definitely not be related to business; rather, it will be related to a very unexpected area. Epsilons generally arrange their lives differently, but still quietly and calmly.

Gammas and Deltas (both males and females), as a rule, remain at their level until the end of their lives. Basically, they become small sellers, office plankton, workers in a decaying factory, or, due to the inability to do something, they simply move into a creative environment, where, naturally, they ruin everything. They get married and are married, for the most part, to their own kind.

With Omegas (or rather with ex-Omegas) the situation is most difficult, since most of them find it very difficult to relearn how to communicate with people. If Omega manages to overcome these complexes, then life will become easier. Over time, resistance to stressful situations can develop, and Omega can achieve a certain success, on a par with the same Alphas and Betas. However, if he remains the same as before, then his life will be little different from the same Gammas, which are essentially useless to anyone. The problem will get worse if several of these typical Gammas and Omegas, after failed courses of psychological “rehabilitation” from some half-educated psychologist, end up together, in one team, and only feel equally bad in society, with all the ensuing consequences.

To summarize, we can say that such a hierarchy has always existed - since in any case, the most diverse group will sooner or later unite into unified system. But the situation itself depends on many factors. For example, the integrity of the institution itself, the gender ratio in the group, as well as the stability of the hierarchy. As already noted, a less “stagnant” hierarchy is more tenacious, due to active and not so active conflicts at the top. And finally (and actually, first of all!), Special attention It is worth paying attention to the formation of personality not in a closed society, but outside it, for example, in home, in family.

The described model is to some extent quite arbitrary. In some cases, it is quite consistent with real situations that you can observe with your own eyes. Here everyone has their own choice, but when and at what level of the hierarchy they made it is another question.

At first, everyone looks closely at each other, and after “grinding in”, the final composition of the groups is formed, roles are formed for almost the entire remaining time of the class’s existence. The level of the school hierarchy reaches its peak value in the sixth to ninth grades.

Your child’s place in the school hierarchy depends on how confident he is, his self-esteem, independence from the opinions of others, his character, and many other factors.

Alpha.

The main role of Alpha is to organize the class, maintain a unified structure and control this mass. For example, if Alpha wants to leave lessons, the class leaves with him. Or Alpha wants to be loudly indignant at the actions of the teacher - the whole class is even louder indignant after him. Not a single more or less serious decision should be made without the knowledge and consent of Alpha. And, naturally, the persecution of the local Omega is organized by him.

Second Alpha

Quite a rare occurrence. Represents another student in the class with leadership qualities. The peaceful coexistence of two alphas is possible because the alternative Alpha does not participate in the ranking fight in any way; he already has somewhere to spend his potential.

In the presence of the second Alpha, Omega lives more calmly, since he is the only one who can come to his defense. But since there is still no time to constantly protect him, the presence of such a defender in the class does not remove the status of a victim from an outcast.

Betas

There are one or two of them in the class. Alpha's only friends. These are people whom he trusts and whose opinions he listens to. They can be from ordinary families of average income, or from families of intellectuals. Beth is either not as good at speaking as Alpha, or lacks charisma, so they cannot directly control the class. But they control through Alpha.

Scales

The majority, as a rule, are half a class. They follow on the heels of Alpha, fulfilling his whims and ingratiating themselves if they are guilty of something. Sometimes they receive resources (sometimes material, but more often moral), which are conquered by Alpha and his retinue. Compared to Gammas, Alphas and Betas receive more, Epsilons receive nothing, and Omegas even give away.

Epsilons

These are what are commonly called “gray mass”. In terms of quantity - the remaining male component of the class minus Omega. People don’t go to school to feel “cool,” but because they have to.

Omega

Central person throughout the hierarchical system. An absolutely necessary component for any close team. As you know, when there is a common enemy, the team unites to mercilessly fight it. The class, in which there is a pronounced Omega, is friendly, cheerful and seemingly healthy.

If a victim leaves the class for some reason (or becomes stress-resistant), a replacement is usually found from among the Gammas, or the class is divided into several groups, between which intergroup processes begin.

Social roles of girls:

Girls in the class also form hierarchies that at first practically do not intersect with the hierarchies of boys. The crossing occurs only at 13-15 years - period onset of puberty.

There are usually several girl leaders, and from the very beginning two or three almost non-contacting interest groups are formed. Until the age of thirteen, girls are not interested in Alphas or boys in general. In rare cases of intersection of groups, girl leaders have authority over boy leaders.

Due to such heterogeneity of the female part of the class, an outcast girl who is bullied by everyone does not arise often. In general, the hierarchical structure of girls is much less stable than that of boys, and over the years of study it can change quite a lot.

Alpha.

Basically, they are either girls with a reputation as the first beauty and, on top of everything else, a bitchy character, or excellent students with high self-esteem. In the first case, Alpha is the trendsetter in the class.

The main feature of Alphas is that they become teachers' favorite students. The teacher may not listen to the Alpha boy, but he will definitely listen to the opinion of the Alpha girl.

The Alpha Girl has an exclusive, undeniable and non-negotiable right to the Alpha Boy. Compared to the Alpha boy, her position is not nearly as strong in the class, because the female team is never and nowhere a cohesive structure in which everyone is “for each other.”

The absence of an Omega girl can make the leadership position generally purely symbolic, especially when there is more than one group of girls. If there is more than one Alpha girl in the class, then there will be a permanent war between them.

Betas

As a rule, two or three Alpha girlfriends. Alpha needs them to spread gossip and provide small services, for example, escorting them to the toilet, providing an apartment, etc. if necessary. But they are not real friends, as in the relationship between Alpha and Beta boys. And they are not much different from Gamma girls.

The reason is female nature, according to which girls can only completely trust guys, and they always have rivalry with other girls.

Note that Alpha girls prefer to take more plain-looking people as friends. This is due to the fact that not every Alpha will like the fact that her girlfriend is fighting off the guys, so she looks for more homely friends in order to look more advantageous in front of the boys against their background.

Scales

They are in a more advantageous position than Gamma boys, due to the fact that Alpha still respects them and practically does not take out his anger on them.

Epsilon- it's the same gray mass.

Omega girls are chosen according to the same patterns, but more attention is paid to appearance - often these are the ugliest, stupid or poorly dressed, or unable to take care of their appearance.

The most common type of bullying of an unwanted girl is completely ignoring her, but this is practiced in more highly cultured classes, in elite lyceums, etc. In less cultural ones, bullying is not fundamentally different from the male version.

An ideal example of possible bullying in relation to an Omega girl is shown in the Soviet film “Scarecrow”.

Please note that the teacher almost never takes the side of the victim of bullying and generally tries to hide the very fact of hazing in the class as much as possible. This happens for a very simple reason: any recorded fact of bullying a child is a stain on the reputation of both an individual teacher and the entire teaching staff of the school, with mandatory sanctions.

In addition, the deterioration of the reputation of the educational institution will lead to an outflow of the most useful clientele for the school, which will push children out of nowhere, and they may simply sue for money. If Alpha was on the side of the hooligans, then the matter usually ends with imprisonment for a long time in places not so remote, death from a knife in one of the fights, or death from a drug overdose or accident.

Features of the school hierarchy

Each class has its own hierarchy. Moreover, from the teachers and children. But not a single class teacher admits to this. Because convincing, holding conversations about equality is the direct responsibility of teachers, which they do not want to do.
