Accommodation

Students live in student residences throughout the course

Secondary education is considered basic, having received which, each person has the right to choose a further path in his destiny. Having received a certificate of maturity, you can enter any university in any country or find a job. Today's article will be about secondary education in the Czech Republic, about general principles and nuances. Inside view.

As in most European countries, the Czech Republic adheres to certain rules in the educational field, which are fundamentally different from Russian norms.

In secondary school, there is no concept of control and discipline. For example, students have the right to do anything in the classroom, even to sit on a social network using the free school wi-fi, while teachers, in turn, calmly and without nerves present the necessary material, not paying attention to the concentration of the public.

In addition, homework is not given assignments, which aggravates the position of the swayed student. Of the ten subjects studied by students in high school, four are seminars that are selected individually. The grading system is also democratic - for half a year, and to get an assessment, it is enough to collect only three grades during this period.

Now it is not surprising why in secondary schools you can meet 20-year-old high school students sitting carelessly at their desks ...

School discipline

Regarding discipline, everything is loose here as well. Appearance, manners of behavior at recess are not controlled by anyone, which delights even the most decent children. Imagine a picture: informals in their own unique style walk along the school corridors, girls in flashy mini-skirts with bright makeup, boys chase football next to beating objects and no one says anything, everything is normal. Freedom. What else is needed for today's youth?

Despite the fact that in the Czech Republic it is not customary to celebrate professional holidays, to give gifts to teachers in the form of flowers and sweets, nevertheless, there is still a connection between the teacher and the students. As a rule, teachers are open enough to help students both in the subject and in general school affairs. However, in some schools, one can often find dislike of Czech teachers towards Russian-speaking students, which is expressed in ignoring the student, for example, the teacher may not issue the test and explain this by the fact that the test taker will only ruin the form due to lack of knowledge of the language. If this happens, the humiliated and offended student has the right to turn to the principal, who will deal with the nationalist colleague.

Exams in Czech

Finally, let's talk about the most important thing, the exam. It is much easier to pass exams in the Czech Republic than in Russia, which, in principle, encourages parents to send their children to another country. The entire educational program lasts until April, and already in May "Maturita" begins - the exam that completes secondary education. It includes 4 exams, one of which is compulsory for everyone, and this is the Czech language.

In order not to fail the exam, you need to get a positive result on the state exam. language, which consists of two parts. The written part consists of the composition, and the oral part consists of the analysis of the text.

The other three exams are optional. In case of failure, each student has the right to retake, which will take place in September.

If the examinee fails miserably in September, he stays for a second year or returns home, for example, to Russia. In the Czech Republic, there are no indulgences in obtaining a certificate of secondary education, so you should weigh the pros and cons before making the final decision on the study of children abroad.

Learning German - a difficult but exciting process. Learning German in Prague is a natural solution for those who have chosen the Czech Republic as their country of residence, because the Czech Republic is adjacent to two German-speaking countries - Austria and Germany, and has close historical, cultural and economic ties with them.

Earlier, we have already touched upon the topic that in 2016, amendments were made to the School Law of the Czech Republic No. 561/2004, which made significant changes to the organization and procedure for the admission procedure to secondary and secondary vocational schools in the Czech Republic.

Considering that we are the educational center BUSINESS EUROPE for many years have been and remain the leader in the segment of secondary and secondary vocational education in the Czech Republic, providing services for admission to gymnasiums and colleges in Prague, we could not ignore this topic, because the changes that are coming Since 2017, those associated with the admission procedure to educational institutions of this type no longer allow foreign applicants to enroll in Czech institutions remotely, as we did before, for many years in a row and oblige each applicant for training to go through a special introductory procedure personally, which we will discuss in this article.

Over the past 5 years, we have observed a gradual all-round complication of the processes of admission of foreign applicants to Czech educational institutions, this has affected higher educational institutions, nostrification, and today we can state the fact that these changes have reached the secondary education segment.

NEWS OF SCHOOL LAW

So, since 2017, new rules for admitting applicants to secondary educational institutions of the Czech Republic begin to operate, namely:

  1. Acceptance of documents for admission is carried out until March 01 annually! Previously, this deadline was until March 15.
  2. A new concept has been introduced into the law - the UNIFIED EXAM, which is mandatory for admission to secondary educational institutions. If earlier educational institutions made a decision to conduct the entrance exam at their own discretion, now this exam is mandatory, its conduct is enshrined in law along with the list of disciplines to be taken: Czech language and literature, as well as mathematics. At the same time, schools, at their own discretion, have the right to conduct entrance examinations along with a single exam.

Thus, the law prescribes 2 types of examinations:

These innovations in the School Law of the Czech Republic have led to the fact that since 2017 there has been no possibility to enroll applicants to educational institutions remotely, without personal presence. From this year, each applicant applying for admission to any secondary or secondary vocational educational institution in the Czech Republic will be required to come to the Czech Republic from April 12 to April 28 to pass a single exam, regardless of whether he enters a public or private educational institution.

ADMISSION TO STATE COLLEGES AND COLLEGES OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Over the past year, clients have become more frequent with questions about admission to state gymnasiums and colleges of the Czech Republic for a free form of education. In this regard, we decided to touch upon the issue of admission to these educational institutions in more detail.

The admission procedure is the same for both public and private secondary schools, however, our educational center can guarantee the admission of applicants only to partner private educational institutions, due to the fact that the administration is interested in new students and is much more loyal when conducting entrance examinations. At the same time, the administration of public schools is not interested in accepting foreigners who lack basic language knowledge and for whom the school will have to devote additional time to their education and adaptation in the new language environment. Public gymnasiums and colleges in Prague do not lack new Czech students and therefore they do not compromise with the opportunity to see "pulled - not pull", knowing how the situation with foreign students will develop in the absence of sufficient language knowledge.

Considering the introduction of the SINGLE EXAM on admission since 2017, the chances of real admission due to their own knowledge among our students in comparison with Czech students in public schools are practically approaching zero. This is not a contested fact of life.

In this regard, for those applicants who, after grade 9, plan to go to study in public schools, we can offer 2 schemes for admission to such educational institutions:

1. Taking a one-year Czech language course in Prague with further admission in a year to the chosen state educational institution.

2. Admission to a private secondary educational institution for 1 course and further transfer at the end of the first year of study to the chosen educational institution.

Thus, we can conclude that from 2017, it becomes impossible to enter public schools in the Czech Republic without losing a year of study.

LIST OF STATE COLLEGES AND COLLEGES OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC

All the educational institutions listed below, regardless of their name: academy, conservatory or higher school, are secondary vocational schools, admission to which is possible on the basis of 9-year education, education in which is carried out free of charge.

Study in the Czech Republic: How is the issue of children's education being resolved?

If you decide to move to the Czech Republic with your family, then the question immediately arises about the education of your child. To begin with, you will need to decide in which language you want to continue (start) training: in the language of the country - Czech, in Russian, in English ... All these possibilities are here. The decision usually depends on two main factors: first, on where you think your children will then receive higher education (and, therefore, live and work), and secondly, how much money are you willing to invest in their education (because education in the Czech Republic in the Czech language is free, while in other languages \u200b\u200bit is paid). Education in all schools in the Czech Republic is five days.
1. Czech schools.
Základní škola - primary (basic) school

In public schools in the Czech Republic, education is free.
Basic (nine-year) education is compulsory for both Czech children and children of foreigners who are admitted to school, subject to confirmation of their stay in the Czech Republic. Training takes place in Czech. There is a practice to send foreign students who do not speak Czech to the class below. That is, if your child finished 5th grade in Russia, then here he will go not to the 6th grade, but to the same 5th grade, in order to go through the program again, but this time in Czech. There are no Czech language grades in the first year of study. Usually, in a year, children master the language, studying at school, although it will not be superfluous to organize additional classes with a tutor.

Children 6-7 years old are admitted to the first grade of basic school (usually a child goes to school at the age of six if he turns 7 before the end of the school year) School enrollment takes place mainly from 15 January to 15 February. At this time, it is customary in schools to conduct interviews with parents, they are told about the rules and traditions of the school, and they are introduced to teachers. Most often, it is convenient for parents to enroll a child in the school that is geographically closest to their place of residence, since, firstly, classes usually begin at 8-8.30 am, and secondly, general education primary schools, in general, differ little from each other. Although in recent years, many schools, in an effort to attract students, have developed their own curricula. Some offer an in-depth study of foreign languages \u200b\u200bfrom the first grade (this subject is usually introduced from the fourth grade), others - a stronger program in mathematics, computer science or creative subjects.
In the Czech Republic, a grading system from 1 (best) to 5 (worst) is used to assess learning outcomes. Moreover, unlike schools in Russia, the "five" is actively used as a full-fledged legal assessment. At the end of each school year, the so-called. vysvědčení (similar to a report card), which shows the final grades in individual subjects. If a student receives a final 5, he must retake this subject at the end of summer vacation (usually in August). If the retake is unsuccessful, you will have to repeat the training in the same class.

The Czech primary (basic) general education school is divided into two stages: the first (grades 1-5) and the second (grades 6-9), after which you can continue your studies in secondary school (analogous to a technical school) or in a 4-year gymnasium, after which students take maturity exams (called maturita). For children who already in basic school show a tendency towards certain sciences (exact, humanitarian), there is the possibility of admission to an 8-year gymnasium after grade 5 or to a 6-year gymnasium after grade 7 of basic school.
Gymnasiums differ from general education schools not only in that exams are taken for admission to them, but also in that in gymnasiums the approach to teaching is completely different, much more serious. Many of our compatriots, whose children attended a basic school in the Czech Republic, believe that the program of the Czech basic school, to put it mildly, is more sparing or rather weaker than in Russia.
It is imperative to submit documents to the gymnasium in advance - at the latest - in April, and even earlier in some especially popular schools, where there is a large competition.

Střední škola - secondary school
After basic school, you need to continue your studies in secondary school or 4-year gymnasium. If a student graduated from a basic school outside the Czech Republic, he must nostrify a certificate issued by a foreign school (certificate of incomplete secondary education) or present confirmation of the recognition of this certificate as valid. ( Nostrification - recognition of the equivalence of a foreign certificate. Nostrification of certificates of incomplete (or complete) secondary education is carried out by the corresponding department of education - in Prague, the city magistrate. For nostrification, you need to submit the following documents: an application form, a notarized copy of the certificate, a certified translation of the certificate (as well as an insert to the certificate, which lists the subjects studied and indicates the number of hours listened for each subject). This procedure costs 200 CZK, and the processing time for the application is usually 30-60 days.

Secondary schools in the Czech Republic can be divided into three main groups:
- gymnasiums;
- secondary special schools;
- secondary special schools.
Czech secondary schools and gymnasiums can be general education or specialized - with in-depth study of a particular subject. Secondary vocational (střední odborné) schools, together with general secondary education, also allow you to acquire a certain specialty. After graduating from a secondary specialized school (středné odborné učiliště) - a semblance of Russian vocational schools and vocational schools - the student receives a certificate of assigning him a certain specialty.

In the Czech Republic, unlike the usual system, after basic school, exams are taken not at the end of the ninth grade (a student receives an analogue of our certificate), but during admission to secondary school. The Czech language, mathematics and one foreign language are required. In specialized schools, a subject in the specialty is compulsory and one to choose from. In schools where the student does not receive a certificate of specialization, both subjects are optional. To take an exam in any subject, you must first attend the prescribed number of teaching hours. The annual grade in a subject can affect the examination, and vice versa. If the exams were not passed the first time, there is no need to despair: at the end of August there is an opportunity for additional exams. And although students at the end of summer are recruited only by those schools and gymnasiums that did not get them during the first examination round, you can try your luck a second time in a completely different school. And in accordance with the new school law, starting in 2009, students will only be able to apply to two secondary schools at the same time, so the chances of continuing their education will double.
After successfully completing secondary school and passing the final examinations (maturitní zkouška), the graduate receives a maturity certificate (maturitní vysvědčení).
Since the 2009/2010 school year, state matriculation exams have become compulsory for all graduates of high school or gymnasium. Previously, they were taken voluntarily, mainly by those who were going to enter universities.
It should be noted here that in the Czech environment the value of getting an education (especially higher education) is incomparably lower than in the countries of the former USSR. Not all young people want to study at universities. This is partly due to the general lack of ambition and achievement motivation in the culture, and partly to an acute shortage of specialists in manual professions and artisans (plumbers, gas workers, construction professions, auto mechanics). What professions do children consider the most romantic? There are probably still cosmonauts in Russia. In the Czech Republic there are scavengers (!).

2. Some Russian schools in Prague.
Graduates of Russian schools in the Czech Republic receive an ordinary Russian-style secondary education certificate. Then you can enter higher educational institutions with him.
- School at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Czech Republic with in-depth study of a foreign language. Teaching is conducted in Russian according to Russian curricula, teachers are mostly posted from Russia. The school is paid, the tuition fee is $ 80-140 per month. It is possible to study as an external student (some Russian children study free of charge in a Czech general education secondary school and at the same time - as an external student - are trained in Russian). About 300 students from 15 countries study in this school (except for Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union, also from Bulgaria, Vietnam, China, Czech Republic). (address: Prague 6, Krupkovo namnesti 1).
- School-gymnasium "Dialogue". Education (grades 1-11) is conducted according to official Russian programs in Russian, with in-depth study of English and Czech languages. Russian certificate. The school provides children with three meals a day. For those who wish - accommodation on a full board basis. There is also an external study. The cost of training is 500-600 euros per month. The school has a kindergarten - from 3 to 6 years old. In the summer - a school camp for preschool children. (Prague-West, Khrashtyany 14 -).
- The first Czech-Russian gymnasium - a private high school offering complete secondary education, ending with final exams and a matriculation certificate. In addition to the Czech language, Russian, English, German are studied. Admission to the school takes place in the form of an interview, training is conducted in Czech and Russian. The cost of training is about 1500 euros per year. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this institution in any positive way. From a short personal conversation with the owner of the "First Czech-Russian Gymnasium" we did not have the best impression.
There are more Russian schools in Prague than it is named here, for example, there is a secondary school and a kindergarten at the European Academy of State and Law (Prague 6, Na Basht St. Jiri 7, near the Hradcanska metro station - www.euasp.eu) or "Russian-Ukrainian gymnasium". We do not know about Russian schools outside of Prague, although common sense says that in Karlovy Vary there must be something like that.
Let's make a reservation that the information given here could be out of date, this text was written around 2008 - schools could move, change price tags, or even close. However, it seems to us more important to talk about the situation as a whole, and those who wish will find specific addresses in the information space themselves.

3. Some international schools in Prague.
Education in these schools is always paid... Graduates of international schools receive a Western-style certificate of secondary education.
You can choose education in English, German or French for your child. Pupils who graduated from international schools usually enter higher educational institutions in England, America, Germany, France, etc., some continue their education in a foreign language at international universities in the Czech Republic.
The most famous schools with English training in Prague:
- Riverside School - a private family-type school operating according to the British-American system for children 3-18 years old. Founded in 1994. Tuition fees - from 14,000 euros per year. (Prague 6, Roztocka street 9 -.
- British International School Prague - a private school for children from 18 months to 16 years old, founded in 2007. At present, children of more than 30 nationalities study in it. The training is based on the British system adapted to the international environment. Tuition fees - from 17,400 euros per year. (Prague 4, Brunelova street 960/12 -.
At one time, this school was divided into 2 parts, so that two British schools are located nearby (in Prague 4), the price tag and the program of the other school do not differ much from the one described. There she is:
- The Prague British School - the school continues the activities of The British International School. The training is based on the British education system for children from 18 months to 18 years old. Founded in 1992. The cost of training is from 14,700 euros per year. Tuition fees - from 14,000 euros per year. (Prague 6, Nebusicka street 700 -. This is the most important school for those who are in the Czech Republic only temporarily (diplomats, business managers, etc.). Their children must go to this school, because when moving from the Czech Republic to Singapore, Germany or Morocco) they will find the same school there (this is an international network).

School with German language of instruction:
- Německá škola v Praze - an international gymnasium school with 8 years of study. Provides the opportunity to enter universities in the Czech Republic and Germany. There is also a kindergarten and a primary school in German. Tuition fees - from 7200 euros per year. (Prague 5, Schwarzenbergska street 1/700 -
We must say right away that not everyone is taken there and is extremely reluctant (there are no places). It will be difficult to get there without a recommendation.

School with French language of instruction:
- Lycee Francais de Prague - French Lyceum. The training takes place in accordance with the official French principles while developing the language and culture of the Czech Republic. Attention to those who know racism behind them: many African (and generally black) children study at the French Lyceum. Tuition fees - from 6,700 euros per year. (Prague 5, st.Drtinova 7 -
